Today, Belgian singer and songwriter Stromae released the music video for his latest song, Carmen. You didn't fail to notice you're on a blog primarily dedicated to animation - until it becomes A113LiveAction, of course - and are probably wondering what this piece of news is doing here. It's simple: the music video is animated, directed by Sylvain Chomet and quite good. Watch it below.
Sylvain Chomet earned two Academy Award nominations for his animated films (The Triplets of Belleville and The Illusionist). You can definitely sense the distinctive style of the French director in Carmen: the colour palette, the black comedy, the vibrant drawing lines… everything screams Chomet.
Carmen is pretty hostile towards social medias in general, and twitter in particular. Agree or not with the statement made by the song, but it's hard to argue the short film isn't efficient.
While this is nice to see Sylvain Chomet is still working on some animation projects, it's sad to think that his latest animated film was released 5 years ago. He since moved on to live action film-making, and his return to animated features seems unlikely.
Did you like Carmen? Do you want Sylvain Chomet to come back to feature-length animation? Tell us in the comments.
