Sam Simon |
The Sam Simon Foundation announced earlier today via its facebook page that Sam Simon, best known for having developed The Simpsons and recipient of nine Emmy Awards passed away. He was 59.
Sam Simon is one of the unsung heroes of one of the most popular TV show ever (and probably the most important animated TV show of all time), The Simpsons. Though he left in 1993, after only four seasons, he is one of the key people who made The Simpsons what it is. Sam Simon helped define the tone of the series, designed some of the most beloved characters. He was also the one who assembled a team of writers for the show.
Sam Simon's name still appears in the opening credits today.
Some people who have known him and worked with him have expressed their sadness upon the news of his passing via twitter:
Sam Simon's contribution to the spirit of sharp, well-observed comedy is incalculable. Awful to lose such a gifted & genuinely good guy.

Years ago Sam Simon put in a kind word and got me my first writing job. I thanked him then, and now, and every time I pat a rescue pup. RIP
