Tim Burton is Directing the Live-Action Dumbo

It seems like our worst fears are about to come true, as Disney is going forward with their idea of a Dumbo remake; indeed, The Wall Street Journal reports that Tim Burton (Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Frankenweenie…) has been chosen by Disney to direct the live-action/CG hybrid.

This Dumbo remake is logical from a purely business-minded point of view, as Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland was a huge hit for Disney in 2010 when it grossed over a billion dollars worldwide.
But it makes very little sense no sense at all from every other angle. Dumbo is a classic film with a simple story that was perfect for animation.
Walt Disney Pictures president of production Sean Bailey's declarations on the project ("It's a big world") seem to indicate that the live-action remake will rely on a more sizable plot. Which probably means that we're about the see some major changes in the story we know.

There is no release date scheduled yet for Tim Burton's Dumbo.

What are your thoughts on a live-action Dumbo? Is Tim Burton the right man for the job?

  2. Destroying might be a bit harsh, but a CG/Live action Dumbo is dangerous, to say the least. I don't see it ending well :(
